We answer as the people who wrote it
Mocap Cutter is built and used daily by the GAMECELSIOR team. Write to us with your engine version, the plugin version (see Edit › Plugins), what you did, what you expected, and the relevant lines from the Output Log filtered on LogCelsiorAnimTools.
Frequently asked questions
Does Mocap Cutter modify my mocap takes?
No. Everything you author (sync, trims, clips, performers, colours, the shoot camera) is written into a Mocap Cutter Session asset weighing a few kilobytes. The animations are only ever read. The cut duplicates a take into a new asset and never writes back into the original.
What happens to notifies and sync markers on a cut clip?
They are removed before the crop, because the engine's crop does not rebase them and would pile every notify of a long take onto the last frame of a short clip. Bone tracks, curves, attributes, additive settings, retarget source and compression settings are all carried across.
Can I cut one action for two performers at once?
Yes, that is the intended workflow. A clip names which performers take part; the cut produces one asset per ticked performer, each carved out of that performer's own take with its own frames. This is why the performer belongs in the naming rule.
I renamed a performer. Do my clips still point at the right person?
Yes. Clips reference the takes performers were captured in, never their names.
My video and my take drift apart over a long shoot.
Mark a second sync pair far from the first (at least one second, ideally minutes apart). The solver then measures the speed as well as the offset.
Do I have to sync every performer separately?
No. A measure written on one take places every take of the same shoot whose sync is still untouched. Nothing already measured is ever overwritten.
My shoot folder moved to another drive.
Relink one take with Relink video… and the tool offers to remap the rest of the session in a single transaction. Sync, trims and clips are kept.
How do I find the moment on the video a clip came from, months later?
Each cut asset carries the rush file name, in and out timecodes, offset and speed, source take and frame range as asset registry tags. Add them as columns in the Content Browser.
My character comes out rotated by ninety degrees in Blender, Maya or Cascadeur.
Set the FBX import up axis to Z in the receiving application. It is not decided by the mesh export option.
Can I use the tool without a reference video?
Yes. Takes without a shoot play from their own start, get a lane with their speed curve, and can be clipped and cut normally. You lose the shared clock between performers and the rush timecodes on exported assets.
Where does the cut put its assets if the output folder is empty?
In a Clips subfolder of the take's own folder, never among the raw takes.
Is there a Fab listing?
Coming soon. Mocap Cutter 1.0 will be sold on Fab; until the listing is live, builds are distributed directly by GAMECELSIOR to early access users.
Troubleshooting video
- "No video track" almost always means the media player plugin is missing. Check that
WmfMediais enabled (Edit › Plugins › Media). - File offline: use Relink video…. Only the path is rewritten.
- Unplayable after 10 seconds: the container is accepted but the codec is not. Re-encode to H.264 in an MP4 container.
- Frame step feels wrong: the file is probably variable frame rate. Set the cadence by hand in the VIDEO FPS field; a manual value is never overwritten.
